Hacking off my Hair!

So I have a confession to make...I kind of hacked off my hair last week!!! I was thinking - wouldn't my hair be so much easier to curl if it was slightly shorter? And when it comes to my hair - I'm very impatient ...as soon as I decide to make a change (cut, colour etc) - I want it done immediately!

Since my hair is cut in layers - I was going to ask my stylist to cut it up to the length of my longest layer. And then the dangerous thinking began...how hard could it be to trim it myself - I'd just use my layers as a guide.
Ten minutes later, I was left with uneven strands and shorter-than-expected hair...OOPS. Lesson learned, put down the scissors Zeba! I am kind of loving the length - but I definitely need to visit a professional to get it fixed...and I'll have a lot of explaining to do!

Books to Read Marie Kondo Gretchen Rubin The Happiness Project The Secret You're a Badass

Perhaps my desire for new hair was inspired by all of the self-help books I've been reading lately. I usually reach for fiction books - yet I've found myself drawn to these books recently:
  • The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up / Spark Joy - I'm pretty good at decluttering, but Marie Kondo has helped me take it to the next level. In the past, I'd hold on to "good quality" or "expensive" items out of guilt. Her books helped me realize that it's ok to let go of items that don't make me happy - it's better for me because it clears up space for me to see the items I DO love - and it's better for the items because they can go to someone who will actually use them!
  • The Happiness Project - I enjoyed every single page of this book. I consider myself a happy person - and I loved reading the chapters and realizing that I was already incorporating a lot of the recommended practices in my life - while also learning about new things to try out.
  • You are a Badass - I heard about this book from Gina and Noelle. There's a lot of easy-to-read common sense advice about reaching your potential and getting over your fears. I'm halfway through this book - and I'm hoping it will help me work through many of my subconscious limiting beliefs.
  • The Secret - I strongly believe in focusing on positive energy - so I'm looking forward to re-reading this book. I read it when it first came out, but I definitely need to refresh my memory!

Have you read any good self-help books lately? I'd love some more suggestions - apparently I'm on a roll! Also - let me know if you've ever tried to cut your own hair - and how did it turn out?

  2. You look so cute with short hair! It really suits you! I'm telling you, women are so irrational with their hair and I know many who would benefit from cutting off unhealthy damaged hair but they can't because of fear. It's hair, it'll grow :) I cut mine again to fix uneven layers. It's shorter than I want because after three years, I'm ready to grow it out for a change. I'm happy you like the badass book! It's really helped me!

  3. Your hair still looks just as beautiful and healthy as always! You couldn't have done too much of a "hack" job! LOL. I used to trim my own hair in college to save money! I doubt it looked very good at all (especially in the back) but it got me through and I didn't hate it!

  4. I'm the exact same way when I want something done. I'm so impatient! Your hair looks great though! I love The Secret as well. Some of my other favourite self-help books are The Power of Now and The Untethered Soul - both great reads that I think you would enjoy!
