Dreaming of (non-dairy) Desserts

Ever since I cut dairy out of my diet, my skin has been SO much better. I went from a face full of painful breakouts to relatively clear skin. But eliminating dairy hasn't been many things are out of the question now. Going for brunch? I have to make sure they don't add milk to the scrambled eggs. I steer clear of baked goods because they probably have milk/butter in them (no more donuts or pastries or cookies!!!)...the "avoid" list goes on and on!

When it comes to breakfast/lunch/dinner - I can usually find delicious non-dairy alternatives...but the one department I really feel like I'm missing out on is dessert. Yes, I know fruit is "nature's dessert"...but sometimes (often) I want something indulgent. So in today's post I'm sharing my top non-dairy dessert options.

Non-dairy Dessert Options. Non-Dairy Mango Lassi Recipe

  • Most chocolate chip cookies have milk ingredients in them - but surprisingly - the mini snack packs of Chips Ahoy and Chips Ahoy Rainbow Cookies don't! Make sure to check the ingredients carefully - I've found the full size versions DO contain milk, as do the store brand minis.
  • One of my favourite restaurant-style desserts is warmed Two-Bite Brownies served with SO Delicious Creamy Cashew Ice Cream. Finding an ice cream substitute has been a challenge - I don't love the taste of coconut milk (it's to rich), soy tastes a lot like milk but it breaks me out, and almond ice cream is too watery. But this Creamy Cashew Ice Cream is an amazing option.
  • And if you enjoy sorbets - try the Mango Pineapple Sorbetto from Whole Foods.
  • Mango Lassi - this was one of my favourite desserts EVER (I even shared this recipe back when I could enjoy the real thing!) And I'm SO excited to have created an amazing substitute. Non-Dairy Mango Lassi Recipe: Blend Cashew Ice Cream, Mango Juice and Frozen Mango cubes - you'll end up with THE most delicious me!
  • Cakes and Cupcakes - there are some boxed cake mixes that don't contain dairy - I especially love this red velvet mix. I make our own buttercream frosting at home using almond milk and margarine instead of milk and butter.

I do have a few disclaimers before I end this post. As far as I know, these products don't contain dairy - but ALWAYS check the ingredient list yourself, as manufacturers often change formulations.  Also - these options are NOT super healthy - they may contain a lot of preservatives and filler ingredients to make up for the missing dairy. But as an occasional treat - they definitely hit the spot!

What are your favourite non-dairy desserts?
