Red Lips, Grey Shirt

I'm not really a sweatshirt and sneakers type of girl, BUT when the sweatshirt is sparkly and the sneakers are lipstick red - I'm willing to give the look a try!

Would you believe these are my FIRST ever pair of Chuck Taylors? I've always liked the classic look of them - but never saw the need to add a pair to my wardrobe...until our theme-park trip to Florida. My feet ached from ALL that walking - and looking back, I should have opted for sneakers over ballet flats! Union Jack Boots offered to let me try a pair of shoes from their site - so I opted for this classic red pair (although I was also tempted by the navy..and a little bit by the pink)! Now I'm ready for our next family holiday - I can walk for miles in these shoes!

Do you own any Converse shoes - if so, what color is your favorite?

As I mentioned in my last post - my heart has been stolen by all the Spring/Summer Media Previews! Here are some highlights:

Spring-Inspired Pastel Blue

It's been a confusing time for my wardrobe. I've been attending Spring Previews, where my heart has been stolen by soft pinks, pastel blues and pretty creams. Yet it's freezing (and snowing) outside - so I can't fully incorporate Spring outfits into my daily wear.

Vest & Tunic: Fairweather (c/o Dixie Outlet Mall) / Leggings: H&M / Boots: Old Navy / Bag: Minkoff

I was very excited to find this pastel blue tunic at Fairweather, when I went shopping at Dixie Outlet Mall this past weekend. They had a whole wall of new Spring arrivals - and if you bought one item, you'd get the second for only $10. So I spent $49 on this shirt, and got a boho cream tunic for $10 - what a great deal!

Surprisingly, the best bargain WASN'T my $10 Spring tunic purchase, but this out-of-season black faux fur vest. Originally priced at $79, I got it on clearance for only $10! Some fur vests can look too bulky (and make you feel like a teddy bear!) but this one is sleek. It's the perfect layering piece, allowing me to wear my light Spring tunic in this freezing weather.

I'm happy because I got my pop of Spring colour AND I'm still cozy and warm in my faux leather leggings, vest and boots!

What's your favourite Spring colour?

DISCLAIMER: Vest and tunic were purchased using a giftcard from Dixie Outlet Mall.

P.S. I'm giving away a $500 Amex Giftcard on Instagram (open to my US & Canadian Followers) click here to enter!

How to Create an Ombre Lip

A wall of roses - platters of pretty pastel macarons - how could I NOT love the #LipsAndScents event? I recently attended the #SDMBeautyGala to learn how to achieve the perfect ombre lip from a Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutique expert .

Truth be told, I was a bit nervous about trying an Ombre Lip - I had visions of 90s-style brown lipliner ringed around a nude lipstick. I was relieved to learn that the modern Ombre Lip was NOTHING like 90s lips. My appointment started with Lysa (the Beauty Boutique Expert) asking me what shade of lipcolour I wanted to try. Since it was Valentine's Day - of course my answer was: ROSY pink!

Lysa began by moisturizing my lips with a lipbalm. She then applied Lise Watier Lip Primer as a base, to ensure my lipcolour stayed in place. Since I have naturally dark lips, she applied some concealer so that the lighter pink lipcolours would show up on my lip. She then took a Clarins Lip Pencil (in Azalea) and started lining my lips.

She first focused on perfecting my lip shape, and then used the liner to shade around the border of my lips - leaving a graduated lip colour. To fill in the rest of my lips, she applied two Clarins Natural Lip Perfectors (in 07 & 08) - the darker shade around the edges of my lip, and the lighter shade near the center. She finished off with a dab of super shiny Dior gloss (Dior Addict 363) to add dimension to my lips.

I absolutely loved my finished look - here's a close-up. You can see that the ombre is very subtle and gives the impression of fuller looking lips. I learned a lot of new tips from my consultation:
  • Lip primers exist - and they really work! Glossy lips never last that long on me, but this helped my color last for hours.
  • Using a concealer to cancel out my natural lipcolour helps lighter lipsticks/glosses stand out on my lips
  • There are different ways of wearing an ombre lip - you could play with different lip colours for a more dramatic lip (as seen here) or you can work with various shades and textures for a more subtle 3D effect (as seen on my lips)!

I loved my results and wanted to recreate this look at home, so I purchased the Lise Watier Lip Primer and Lip Pencil in Rose Parfait. (the Clarins Lip Pencil was out of stock but this Lise Watier one is the same shade). Because I attend the Lips and Scents event - I received a goody bag with my purchase. It included a trio of rose chocolates (demolished by my family before I could take pics - sorry!), a pretty fuchsia makeup pouch, an adorable Lip Fusion lipstick mini, and a copy of the most recent GLOW magazine.

Before I left the Beauty Boutique, I checked out the two most popular Valentine's Day perfumes: Roses de Chloe and Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Rose. I knew I'd love Roses de Chloe because I adore the original Chloe scent, but I was surprised at how much I loved Viva La Juicy Rose. It's not as strongly sweet as other Juicy Couture perfumes - but it's just as long-lasting and has the prettiest floral scent. Also - I'll admit it - I'm obsessed with the pink and gold Juicy Rose glitter bottle - it's just so sparkly and pretty!

Trench Coat Trackdown, Recent Outfits & Anti-Aging

I think I've been searching for the perfect trench coat ALMOST as long as I've been blogging (proof: 1, 2, 3). I want something with the quality of a designer trench coat - but NOT the designer price tag. Well - my search is finally over - I was so excited to find this ZARA trench coat last month - on sale for $79! I love the color, material and stitching - it's perfect.

I wore these next two outfits for media previews downtown. I guess a blazer + tank + boots is my quick & easy uniform.

This floral jacket ended up blending in with the decor at the Spring preview I attended - I even matched their goody bag!

Although you may not be able to tell, I'm wearing false lashes in this picture. I was inspired by buynow/bloglater's technique of cutting lashes in half and placing them only at the outer edges of your eyelids. They're much easier to apply with the smaller band, and not as uncomfortable.

This is my cold day uniform...a sweater that doubles as a blanket!

I also wanted to share some anti-aging beauty products that I've been testing out. One of my skincare goals is to take care of my neck and hands, as much as I take care of my face. It's such a simple step, but easy to overlook. While my facial skincare is fixed at the moment (due to my acne regimen), I've been using stronger skincare on my hands and neck. I've been applying SkinCeutical's Hydrating B5 masque, and once it's finished, I'm going to be layering their Serum 10 and Face Cream. The serum contains powerful antioxidants (10% L-ascorbic acid and ferulic acid) but is still gentle enough for sensitive skin, while the face cream seals in moisture and firms your skin.

I've had amazing results with my Tria Acne Clearing Blue Light, so I was excited to receive their Age-Defying Eye Wrinkle Correcting Laser. This tiny machine use fractional laser technology to generate new collagen and elastin - leading to less lines and wrinkles around your eyes. I can't wait to test this out, because I know from my earlier experience with Tria, that their devices can work as well as dermatologist treatments!

Ready in a Rush for Valentine's Date Night

While I love getting dressed up for date nights with hubby - it never seems like I have enough time to get properly glammed up. I'm always looking for shortcuts to help me get ready faster - from curling my hair the night before (and sleeping with it in a bun) to streamlining my makeup routine down to the essentials and choosing a classic outfit that works for both day and night.

Prepping my nails is yet another time-consuming beauty ritual. While I want my nails to look groomed and tidy, the whole manicure process can take quite a lot of time. From cleaning up my cuticles, to filing my nails, applying nail polish, and waiting for my polish to dry - I need to block out at least an hour. One shortcut I do, is to paint my nails right before I go to bed - that way at least I can skip out on the drying time and not worrying about smudging the polish on my nails. This doesn't always work out for me though - if I'm exhausted at bedtime, the last thing I want to do is carefully paint my nails!

Amope Pedi Perfect Blogger Review

That's why I was excited to try out the Amopé™ Pedi Perfect ™ Electronic Nail Care System. It saves time in two ways - firstly - it grooms your nails quickly, and secondly - it shines your nails and allows you to embrace your natural nails and skip the polish!

Amope Pedi Perfect Blogger Review

This little tool is an electronic nail file with three interchangeable heads.
  • Step 1 / FILE - the first head files your nail to your desired look. I was impressed by how easy it was to file - no back and forth motion required, just press it against your nail and it quickly shapes it. And unlike manual filing, you don't have to worry about rough edges, the sides of my nails felt SO smooth!
  • Step 2 / BUFF - buffing your nails help smooth away ridges in your nails. Carefully apply this head to the surface of your nail.
  • Step 3 / SHINE - this is the step that allows you to skip nail polish, as this head will polish your nail surface and bring out a natural shine - without the need for clear nail polish!
I was most impressed with the FILING head - I usually find filing my nails to be a tedious process - but I loved how this shaped and smoothed my nails in no time!

Do you have any tips for getting date-night ready in a rush?

The Amopé™ Pedi Perfect ™ Electronic Nail Care System is the perfect and effortless way to keep your toe and finger nails natural looking and shiny. Its ergonomic design allows for use on both toe and fingernails, and comes furnished with two different speed settings (Normal and Fast). The easy to use product comes with three different heads that allows you to file, buff and shine in less than a few minutes. Get yours now!
